Great article Bryan.
]]>I know! This is the first time I’ve read an article that encourages procrastination to an extent.. To me, it’s probably the best tool a writer has.
Since all of us are so cursed by it, why don’t we use it to our advantage and let our imaginations go wild?
The more time we are given to think through plot-holes and develop characters, the better our stories will be. It’s sad that so many writers feel compelled to write incessantly without a pause to think on anything, in fear of not being like the ‘greats’ – who most certainly procrastinated themselves!
]]>There’s nothing wrong with being a housewife, and definitely nothing wrong with calling yourself a writer 🙂 And in my opinion, housewives are often the most capable when it comes to writing.. You’ve got to have an imagination to kill all those dull moments when the kids aren’t in the house!
By the way I’d like to thank you – you’ve just inspired me to go and find myself some post-it notes! I shall be surrounded in a colourful sea of paper, all of which motivating me to fall into a literary coma.
]]>I often laboured tirelessly over my own writing, feuding with my inner-self over whether I could even call what I was working on ‘writing’.
Eventually, I somehow managed to switch off that side of myself that nagged and teased me for my sloppy prose – and I just got on with it.
I think the best thing any writer can do, whether you label yourself one or not, is to stop thinking about the minute details and just drum out what you have to say. And, hold yourself to a set amount of words to accomplish each week. Eventually, you get so caught up with the task at hand that you forget to criticise and hold yourself back.
At least, that’s what happend in my case! I’m just glad to know that I’m not the only one who still gets sheepish at the idea of adopting the term ‘writer’.
]]>Best tip how to beat real procrastination.
]]>Definitely. Procrastination can be productive! Thanks for reading!
]]>Yes, I’ve found that I get really stuck during the writing process if I think too much about what readers are going to think. I find it more helpful to just write what I want to say, and then go back through in a later round with the reader in mind before hitting publish. But, of course, that process is different for everyone!
